India’s packaged food market is experiencing unprecedented levels of growth.
As consumption of packaged foods and health supplements surges, we see an endless list of new brands emerging, as well as existing brands entering new categories.

With growing competition and increasingly more crowded categories, many brands are resorting to the use of misinformation, manipulation and marketing tricks as a means to compete and grab consumer attention especially with respect to sugar.

Eating too much added sugar is linked to obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. But, at the moment, it can be very difficult and expensive to stick to a low sugar or sugar-free diet.
Consumers are left with high levels of distrust and cynicism, and often pay exorbitant prices to consume substandard or unsafe products. The current situation is far from ideal. We believe there is a better way forward. We aim to change the narrative by making it easier to find and choose healthy options in store, as well as out of home.

SweetShield- Incubated at XLRI, is India’s first claim verification platform for sugar and sweetener related claims on packaged foods and health supplements.
We are building the Trust & Credibility layer for packaged foods in India. In an industry filled with misinformation, manipulation and marketing tricks, we offer lab-tested facts and zero opinions.
The SweetShield marque is a trusted and recognised sign guaranteeing that any claims regarding sugar/sweetener on packaged foods have been independently verified, and that a product or menu item is true to its claims in any of the sugars or sweeteners people need to limit, referencing FSSAI and World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.

We use our partner network of NABL- accredited and FSSAI notified labs to test products and to verify their claims as per FSSAI guidelines. Since the products are third party tested, we have no vested interest in the accuracy of the tests whatsoever. This makes us unbiased, transparent and fully autonomous.

Our platform acts as a bridge between consumers and food brands revolutionizing how consumers choose products and how brands build credibility.
Consumers are becoming more and more interested in sugar consciousness and healthy eating globally. The SweetShield label enables manufacturers, retailers and food service to appeal to the growing number of conscious consumers, and communicate that their product or service is true to its label and is independently verified.

Beyond certification, SweetShield advocates, educates and campaigns to increase the availability, visibility, and demand for options low in free sugars, and brings stakeholders and members together for a common purpose: promoting healthier eating habits.
